matcha cafe maiko inside

Ambiance

The store is located down stairs which is a bit gloomy and near the corner. The inside of the store is clean minimal and has those light wood and green themes found in other matcha places. There’s additional seating outside of the store.

Flavor

The flavor of the sweetener is a bit over powering and the matcha profile isn’t strong. I’ve had this matcha before and sometimes it’s sweet and sometimes it’s bitter so there’s a bit of a conisistency issue. I think it really depends on the size you get as well so the ratio isn't the same with sizes. It’s got a very nutty flavor and I think the oat milk contributes to that. It reminds me of this soy bean power on Korean rice cakes. Dry granular and nutty.

Texture

The matcha has a soft granular texture that leaves it feeling dry and sandy in the mouth. It is a creamier matcha. It’s also a bit heavy. This is probably the matcha with the worst texture and finish.

Notes

The color is a dull, muted, and brown green. It has visible granular bits of matcha. The cup is plastic but the straw is compostable. That’s a big bonus. The matcha comes out solid and very quick. The store is a franchise and can be found through the city. The menu also has ice cream and boba, but not much if not any food or snacks to eat to compliment the matcha with. What I did like was the matcha at home kits that you can buy to make matcha inexpensively. This used to be one of the only matcha places in Japantown but now it doesn't have to be the only one you get. The lines here are quick and they have fast service so if you’re wanting in and out matcha then this is a great place to do that.
